ROAS Calculator

ROAS Calculator: Return on Ad Spend and Break-Even ROAS

Type what you spent on ads and what those ads brought in. You get ROAS as a multiple and as a percent. Add your margin and the page shows the ROAS you need to break even, the most you can pay per order, and whether the campaign actually made money. Nothing you type leaves your browser.

ROAS = 4,500 ÷ 2,000 = 2.25x · Break-even = 1 ÷ 0.54 = 1.85x · Profit = 4,500 × 0.54 − 2,000 = 430 · Max CPA = 50 × 0.54 = 27

Math on the numbers you typed, not attribution. Margin is before rent and salaries; returns count as lost margin on a share of orders.

How it works

  1. Enter spend and revenueAd spend and the revenue those ads brought in, for any period or campaign. ROAS updates as you type, as a multiple like 3.2x and as a percent.
  2. Add your marginEnter gross margin as a percent, or price, product cost, shipping and fees per order and let the page work it out. That gives break-even ROAS, max cost per order and profit after ads.
  3. Compare and saveAdd what-if rows with a different spend, margin or price and see them side by side. Import a product CSV to get break-even ROAS for every item. Rows stay saved in this browser.

Break-even ROAS: the number behind ROAS

ROAS by itself says how much revenue each ad dollar returned. It does not say whether you kept any of it. Break-even ROAS is 1 divided by your margin after product cost, shipping, payment fees and returns. With a 40 percent margin you break even at 2.5x: below that every sale loses money, above it you profit. A target ROAS adds the profit you want on top. For a 20 percent target profit on that 40 percent product it is 1 divided by 0.2, or 5x.

Ad ROI, max CPA and the product catalog

ROI counts profit, so a 3x ROAS on a 25 percent margin is an ROI of minus 25 percent on the ad money. Max CPA is the most you can pay for one order and still break even: average order value times margin. Both update from the same inputs. If you sell many products, import a CSV with price, cost, shipping and fees per item and the table shows margin, break-even ROAS and max CPA for each one, with the products that cannot carry ads at the top.

Questions

Is ROAS a percent or a multiple?

Both are used. Ad platforms usually show a multiple, such as 3.2, and some reports show 320 percent. They mean the same thing: revenue divided by ad spend. The page shows both so you can match whichever report you are reading.

What costs go into the margin?

Everything that scales with an order except the ads: product cost, shipping you pay, payment and marketplace fees, and an allowance for returns. Fixed costs like rent and salaries stay out. If you only know gross margin, use that and treat the result as optimistic.

Where do my numbers and CSV files go?

Nowhere. The math runs in your browser, and the rows you save live in this browser only. We never see your spend, revenue or catalog.
